In Their Own Words

From the Memorial Book

One of my favorite memories with grandpa was when I was watching a football game. We both like watching football. I had just finished a game and he came in to watch one with me. That- from what I could tell- was one of his favorite things to do. I told him that I had just finished and he said oh no 😟. I said I would love to watch another one with him. So we found one and watched it together for at least 2 hours. It was a very exciting game.
β€” Henry Nielsen
The one story I retell about Bob is the first time I can remember visiting the Lassen family home. First, he played ping pong with me. Then, he defeated me (but I wasn't mad about it). Then. he bounded up the stairs, three at a time (a feat that blew me away as a young guy). But it wasn't his farmstrong-ness or ping pong skills that impressed me. It was his personal interest in me and approachableness. Even as a younger man, he always made me feel included and wanted in his presence.
